What it actually does
Whenever you play music - Spotify, YouTube Music, Apple Music, anything that posts a now-playing notification - MusicMood notices the song, analyzes it with AI (harsh vs clean vocals, lyrical mood, energy, and more), and adds it to your personal listening history. Over time it learns your baseline: your usual genres, how often you skip, how your taste shifts by time of day, what music you reach for under what kind of week.
Once it knows your baseline, the day-level insights start mattering. Was Tuesday's metalcore session a typical drive home, or unusually intense compared to your week? Did you really sit with that album, or were you skipping around? When did the music shift, and what was going on around you when it did?
Five perspectives on every session
Each session and each day comes with a mood summary - but you choose who's narrating:
- 🎧 Default - a perceptive friend who pays attention to what you played.
- 😌 Therapist - soft-spoken, looks for emotional arcs and pivots.
- 🔥 Hype - stadium-DJ energy, hunts for peak moments.
- 📊 Analyst - cold, bullet-pointed deltas from your baseline.
- 😈 Roast - mean and clever. Will absolutely call you out.
The personas read the same data but tell very different stories. Swap between them with a tap.
Context makes it interesting
MusicMood reads context from your device (only what you allow):
- Location - Home, Work, Commuting, Travel categories. Coordinates are never sent to the AI; only the derived category.
- Activity - driving (including traffic conditions), walking, running, still.
- Calendar - event timing for context like "evening after work."
- Weather - auto-fetched current conditions.
- Health Connect - heart rate trends and computed stress, so the AI can spot moments where health signals and listening line up.
Journal & mood tracker
Pair each day with a quick mood entry. The app remembers what music you reached for, what you were doing that day, and how things have been going lately - then offers an estimated mood, making this much more than a "how was your mood today" reminder.
Full journal entries are supported too: tag the songs that hit you a certain way, the lines that stuck with you, and entire listening sessions.
Privacy by design
- No login, no account, no data syncing across users.
- Your data - listening history, health signals, calendar contents, journal entries - stays on your device.
- What does go to the AI is documented item-by-item in the privacy policy: song metadata, anonymized session context, and aggregated health signals. Never raw GPS, never your identity.
- Export your entire history to a file. Import it back. Delete it. You're in control.
MusicMood uses Android's notification listener access to see which song is playing - it reads only known music apps' playback notifications, and everything else is ignored. It is a reflection and entertainment tool, not medical care.
